Besperinsky cornice acts as a kind of gateway to the mountain world of the Caucasian reserve. The surroundings of the Berezinsky eaves are rich in sights. Through the cornice, the mountain trails lead to the Pseashkh pass, to the lake valley of Dzitaku, to Lake Maloy, to the camp and to the valley of the Kholodna river, to the glaciers and peaks of the massif Pseashkh.
The group can choose which sights to devote to the second day of trekking – trekking in the valley of the Kholodnaya river to the eponymous glacier or climbing the peak of Bzerpi (2,482 m). Note that trekking to the Cold Glacier is more difficult, since you need to walk about 18 km during the day. and about 30 km. for 2 days.
One of the most picturesque routes in this direction is trekking to the lakes of Dzitaku, which lies 3 km. north of the Pseashkhi Pass. Creek Dzitaku – left tributary of the river. Urushten, flowing into it in the upper reaches. It flows in a small, but very picturesque trough valley. Trough valley (from Trog – “trough”) – a valley in a glacial or ancient glacial area with a trough-shaped (U-shaped) transverse profile, a wide bottom and steep concave sides, which are associated with the smelling activity of glaciers. The valley of Dzitaku is called Ozernaya: seven lakes of different size splashed on its canopy bottom. Hence the other name of the area – Semiozero.

The best time to visit the lake valley of Dzitaku is the summer and the first half of autumn, when the alpine zone finally falls snow, and the lakes are freed from ice and appear before the traveler in all their glory. The great advantage of the Jitaku Lakes is that they are shallow. Water on sunny days warms up perfectly, and on arrival in the camp you can arrange a bath.

The route to the Jitaku Lakes is designed for two days with an overnight stay in tents. The hiking part of the route does not present any technical difficulties and is accessible to any traveler. Along the route there is a wide marked trail, equipped with steps, railings, bridges and recreation areas. For a successful walk in these places you need comfortable sports shoes and clothes.

We try to make your holiday in the mountains as solitary as possible, when organizing the camp, avoid as much as possible the accumulation of tourists. We do not spend the night in stationary campgrounds with public sleeping bags. We use only our own sleeping bags with sanitary napkins and tents, which after each use are cleaned and undergo special treatment

Description of the route to the valley of Dzitaku (Semiozero), to the glacier Kholodny and to the peak of Bzerpi.

First day

Lifting on the cable car 3S from the GPP “Alpika-Service” to the Pikhtovyi shelter (height 1660 m.) At GTZ “Gazprom”.From the cable car station begins the hiking part of the route. First we go on a dirt road, but after 200 meters we get into the fir forest. After 30-40 minutes of steep ascent, the path leaves the forest and leads to the Medvezhy Gate pass. From the pass the first panorama of the mountain panorama opens: the Aibga Range, the Assara Ridge and the Chugush Massif are visible, and Tabunnaya Mountain towers right up the road. The Bear Gate pass is equipped with benches, here you can arrange a short rest.

After the pass, the path bifurcates: the path leading to the right passes through the top of Mount Tabunnaya and then descends to the alpacas (lodges for overnight stay) of the reserve on the Bzerpinsky cornice. It is on this path that we continue our journey. From the top of Mount Tabunnaya a beautiful panorama opens up to the gorge of the Mzymta River, the village of Krasnaya Polyana, the Olympic facilities, the ski slopes, the high peaks of the Caucasian Range and the Black Sea.

The left path traverses the array with the Tabun traverse without sharp sets and altitude drops. This path is used in the summer, when the slopes of Tabunnaya are freed from snow, while the rest is safer through the peak of the town of Tabunnaya. In total, from the Bear Gate to the Besopinsky eaves do not go more than an hour. The distance from the cable car station to the Berezniki eaves is about 4 km.
If the group decided to dedicate the second day to the ascent to the peak of Bzerpi (2,482 m.), Then in the area of the Bzerpinsky cornice a camp is established and the group goes on light.
From the ledge, the path leads us through the alpine glades through the gentle valleys of the sources of the Pslukh and Urushten rivers, imperceptibly crossing the Pseashkh pass. Pass Peshash – valley type, the path here is so canopy that many simply do not notice the passage of the pass.
From the Pseashkh pass, the trail runs along alpine meadows along the left bank of the river. Urushten and after 3 km. A smooth descent leads to the lakes of the Dzitaku valley. The journey time from the cable car to Semiozero is 3-4 hours.

The largest of the Dzitaksky lakes is Lake Big Dzitaku. It lies at an altitude of 1913 m. Above sea level. Large Dzitaku refers to the lakes of avalanche knockout, has an area of about 22.5 thousand square meters. and a maximum depth of 10 m. The shaft of a 6 m high ejected from the lake by avalanches is located on the south-eastern shore of the lake.
Nearby there are four small ponds. The most interesting of them is Lake Two-Face, named so because streams from it flow both to the southern slope of the Western Caucasus, to the Mzymta river basin and the Black Sea, and to the north, to the river Urushten, eventually getting to the Kuban and the Sea of Azov. Therefore, through this small lake area of only 300 sq.m. and a depth of 2 m. passes the main watershed of the Caucasus.
The other two ponds are Lake Superior with an area of 750 sq.m. and a depth of 2 m and the lake Maloe Dzitaku – an area of 1200 sq.m. and a depth of 4 m. The remaining lakes in the valley of Dzitaku do not have their names and gradually overgrow.

Noteworthy in the valley of Dzitaku is also the sphagnum swamp, which is considered a relict heritage of past eras – it exists almost 6 thousand years.
After visiting the Dzītaku Lakes and depending on the route of the second day of the hike, the group returns to the camp on the Bzerpinsky cornice through Lake Maloe, or continues along the path to the Cholednoye camp. After about an hour of smooth descent from Semiozero to the Cold Camp, the trail leads to the bridge over the Kholodnaya River, which originates from the glacier of the same name and flows into the Urushten River. Behind the bridge, the path leads to subalpine meadows, where the Cold camp is located, where tents are placed. Dinner.

By the way, the rich and glorious history of the Cold Camp began more than 150 years ago. After the end of the Caucasian War in 1864, the Psi-Psi’s military post was established in this place for several years, the main purpose of which was the purification of the surrounding mountains from the unconcerned disparate groups of mountain people. On the old verst charts the Kholodnaya River was called “Psizips”, hence the name of the post. At the end of the nineteenth century. on the site of the former post was arranged veterinary station number 9. It was needed to limit the migration of cattle and sheep that could be infected with plague, from Transcaucasia to the Kuban region and the Black Sea province. After the formation of the Caucasus Reserve in 1924, a “Cold Camp” appeared here, and then a tourist shelter with the same name. During the Great Patriotic War it was in the area of the Cold Camp that fierce fighting broke out over the Pseashkh pass.

The length of the pedestrian part of the route is about 12 km. The average set / height reset is 500/200 m.

Second day

Trekking to the foot of the Kholodny Glacier.

When choosing this option, consider that you will need to go through the day about 18 km.

Early rise, breakfast. The band lungs forward to the glacier. The path starts right behind the bridge over the river Cold.We will go up along the river, crossing glades and thickets of crooked wood. Gradually the trail is gaining height, trees are getting smaller, the slopes are becoming more stony. These stone placers are the remains of an ancient moraine – clastic rocks left after the thawing of the glacier. The path from the Cold Camp to the lower end of the Cold Glacier tongue is an average of 1.5-2 hours.
